MAPUSA: A major fire was reported at Vasupradha Polyfilms Pvt Ltd, a plastic factory situated opposite to Geno Pharmaceuticals at Karaswada, Mapusa on Monday afternoon.
The loss was pegged at approximately Rs 18 lakh. However, no injuries were reported in the incident. The factory is owned by Karthik Patel.
According to the Mapusa Fire Station personnel, they received the information from one Sanjay about the incident at around 1.40 pm. Two Fire tenders from Mapusa station were pressed into service and the fire personnel managed to prevent the fire from spreading and saved property and equipment worth Rs 50 lakh.
A fire official informed that one fire tender was sufficient. However the exact cause of the fire is not yet known.
“A part of the factory caught fire. Foam can of around 35 litres was used to control the fire. The vehicle returned back to the station at 3.04 pm. The owner informed that the reason for the fire was due to a spark in the printing machine,” he said.
The items destroyed included asbestos ceiling sheets; ten aluminium and rubber rolls. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Mapusa Fire Station In charge, Bosco Ferrao.
The fire-fighting team comprised of S K Naik, Vasu Tate, Nitin Mayekar, Dilip Sawant, Eprimo Dias, Pramod Mahale, Shivaji Rane, Sanil Benaulikar, Jayesh Kanolkar and Bhagwan Palni.
