In a distressing incident, a fire erupted late Tuesday evening at a residential apartment in Vasco. The blaze quickly engulfed the first floor of the building, prompting a swift response from the Vasco fire department. Fortunately, their timely intervention prevented further devastation and ensured the safety of the residents.
According to the Vasco Fire Department, a distress call from a woman at the affected residence provided limited information about the incident’s location and severity. Despite the challenge, emergency responders rushed to the scene, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
Upon arrival, firefighters were met with a sizable blaze, leading them to swiftly remove LPG cylinders from the apartment to mitigate potential hazards. Additional assistance was promptly sought, and neighbors were alerted to the situation, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby residences.
The origin of the fire, as reported by the apartment owner, was an aging refrigerator. The owner expressed regret over lighting a candle for a mosquito coil near the appliance, suspecting it as the possible cause of ignition.
Following the successful containment of the fire, a Vasco Fire and Rescue Department officer stated, “Our investigation suggests that a short circuit inside the fridge may have triggered the fire. The accumulation of combustible materials, such as cardboard and other scraps, facilitated the rapid spread of flames.”
Despite the extensive damage that left the entire residence in ruins, fortunately, no casualties were reported. The financial loss resulting from the incident is yet to be determined. The police have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter, and additional details are eagerly awaited as the community comes to terms with this unexpected event.
