Fire engulfs Sonsodo garbage site

A major fire engulfed the Sonsodo garbage dumping site on late Saturday evening.
A vast portion of the dumpyard came under fire even as personnel of the Fire Services were engaged in an operation to bring the fire under control.
Fatorda MLA Damu Naik, MMC Chairperson Savio Coutinho, Chief Officer Y B Tawade, MMC Vice-Chairperson Babita Naik and Ward Councillor Ciriaca Rodrigues rushed to Sonsodo to take stock of the situation.
Two fire tenders were pressed into service to bring the raging fire under control. Till 11 pm, the fire services were engaged in a battle to control the fire.
Fatorda MLA Damu Naik said that all the concerned parties including Margao Municipal Council, should sit across the table and discuss ways and means to solve the garbage problem.
