Five bureaucrats booked for recruitment scam

PANJIM: Five top bureaucrats serving under Goa government have been booked by Anti Corruption Branch in connection with the recruitment scam in the Registrar of Cooperative Societies Office at Patto.

PANJIM: Five top bureaucrats serving under Goa government have been booked by Anti Corruption Branch in connection with the recruitment scam in the Registrar of Cooperative Societies Office at Patto. 
Former chairman of the department selection committee P K Velip Kankar, also ex-registrar of cooperative societies and other committee members ~ Meena Naik Goltekar, P M Naik, A S Mahatme, S V Naik, Venu Gopal Nair and others are charged with abusing their official position and corruption under sections 13(1)(d)(ii), 13(2) and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code. 
The offence was registered taking cognizance of a complaint filed by deputy registrar of cooperative societies (administration) Pundalik Vithal Khorjuvekar alleging that the former committee members manipulated the recruitment of candidates for the posts of junior auditor, junior inspectors and audit assistants. The alleged illegalities and irregularities were committed between August 30, 2011 and January 27, 2012.
ACB SP Bosco George told Herald the officials will be summoned for questioning while also documents pertaining to the case will be obtained from the Registrar of Cooperative Societies  office. 
It is learnt the postings were scrapped following severe allegations that selection committee had not followed proper procedures during the recruitment process. Previously, the appointments were kept on hold after the Election Commission of India imposed code of conduct ahead of the 2012 general assembly elections.
