MARGAO: Five Salcete Police Stations during the first five months of the year till May have booked total number of 518 cases under the Goa Non-Biodegradable Garbage (Control) Act, 1996, which prohibits disposal of garbage in public places, drains and sewage and collected fines from the defaulters.
According to the information available from the police, out of these 518 cases booked by Salcete Police Stations, the highest number of 300 cases was booked by Fatorda Police Station while Cuncolim Police Station booked 134 cases, Margao Police Station booked 49 cases and Maina-Curtorim Police booked 33 cases. Only two cases were booked by Colva Police Station. One senior police officer said, “The legal system requires the solid waste be managed properly and the particular law sets out very clearly the responsibility of every citizen to dispose of their garbage in a proper and lawful manner.”
According to sources in police, five Salcete Police Stations in the year 2021 had booked a total number of 3,826 cases under the Goa Non-Biodegradable Garbage (Control) Act, 1996. Out of 3,826 cases booked, the highest number of 1,085 cases was booked by Colva Police while 890 were booked by Fatorda Police.
