The residents claimed that for nearly two decades, they have been demanding the construction of a footpath along the side of the main road as students are facing problems while proceeding to school.

In the absence of a footpath the students are forced to walk on road to proceed to school. On Monday, ward councillor Ramdas Shirodkar started the work of constructing the footpath in Velus in presence of the locals.

The 300-metre long footpath, which is estimated to cost around Rs 29 lakh, will be completed in two months.

“The footpath on the side of the main road was a long pending demand of high school, primary students and ward residents. Students are facing the hardship as they have to walk on the road and the travellers too are facing the difficulties while commuting along the route. On Monday we commenced the footpath work with the help of our MLA Vishwajit Rane,” said councillor Ramdas Shirodkar.
