Foreign ministry officials inspect BRICS summit venues

MARGAO: The officials of External Affairs Ministry Thursday visited three hotels in South Goa that are selected as venues for various BRICS programmes and stay for delegates.

MARGAO: The officials of External Affairs Ministry Thursday visited three hotels in South Goa that are selected as venues for various BRICS programmes and stay for delegates.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Vimal Anand Gupta, Superintendent of Police (Security) Bosco George, South Goa Superintendent of Police and officials of the External Affairs Ministry were present during the inspection. 
The officials visited the Leela Hotel in Mobor, Park Hyatt in Arossim and another starred hotel and took stock of the security and perimeters of the hotels. 
The inspection is aimed at making the hotels secure from any kind of vulnerabilities during the two-day BRICS summit. The helipad at the Mobor military range and the surrounding range was also visited by the officers as VVIP’s are bound to be landing there.
The officials along with senior officers of the Goa police visited the summit venue Hotel Leela and checked around the entire property including the beach side of the resort to have an idea of the entire area. The officials of Leela Hotel Police and the External Affairs officials had discussions on the handing over of the hotel premises to the police to get set the entire security measures.
The sealing of both the roads at the hotel (of which one leads to the beach and one to a small area of 25 to 50 houses) was also discussed, eyeing the entry of prime ministers of the BRICS countries. However it was later thought to have pass system for all people in the houses and establishments in the area to enable them to pass through.
The military firing range at Mobor and the helipad at the range was also inspected as this may be used for landing VVIP’s for the summit.
The BRICS officials have also placed emphasis on the condition of the roads leading to the hotels and will be making suggestions if any to the government.
