BICHOLIM: The Forest Department raided a mine site in Shirgao and seized a JCB, on Wednesday.
During the raid, the dept’s raiding team noticed that 19 trees had been cut, allegedly by the company and conducted a panchanama of the same.
Recently, Shirgao residents had recorded a video, which alleged that the mining company was carrying out excavation rather than just transporting ore. Following this, Shirgao Sarpanch Sadanand Gaonkar filed complaints before the Bicholim mamlatdar and the forest department.
Pursuant to the complaint, the mamlatdar conducted a site inspection wherein he noted that no such illegal excavation was being undertaken by the company.
