PANJIM: The protest at Margao against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) has invited the ire of groups fighting for child rights.
Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN), an NGO, has complained to the police that underage children were a part of the protest meet held at Margao on January 24. According to the NGO, presence of underage children at the protest meet is a violation of the child rights as they were exposed to political ideology, aggressive and derogatory language.
“Having impressionable children at such gatherings places them in a vulnerable situation. Children are exposed to political ideology, aggressive and often derogatory language and this can leave a lasting memory. This can be detrimental to their sensitive minds. Also, at such meetings, the participants can become violent and innocent children become victims. This is violation of their rights,” an extract of the complaint to the office of Director General of Police states.
The NGO has substantiated its allegations with photographs of the children, who had attended the meeting.
