PANJIM: The State Cabinet approved the proposal of entrusting repairs, upgradation, maintenance, construction and reconstruction works of government primary, middle secondary and higher secondary schools to Public Works Department (PWD).
At least 467 schools have been repaired by GSIDC till date and work of 239 schools is in progress with GSIDC.
“To make the transition efficient and to avoid duplication, GSIDC will provide list of completed as well as ongoing works of all government primary, middle and secondary and higher secondary schools to PWD. All the ongoing works will be completed by GSIDC latest by December 2020 and no new work will be assigned to the Corporation,” says the Cabinet note.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant explained that the government schools are situated across the State and the GSIDC being a centralised agency, it becomes difficult for them to execute the works.
“The Public Work Department has its divisions throughout the State and is better placed to undertake such urgent repair works. Hence it is decided to follow the earlier system of carrying out works through PWD,” he said.
