PONDA: Forest officials are on their toes, since Wednesday, to trace and trap the bison that killed Yeno Soliekar, a farmer, at Shivdem in Dharbandora.
After being caught napping over the incident, the Forest officials got their acts together by visiting Shivdem and taking measures to trap the animal. Strong pressure was also brought to bear on the officials by the locals.
After Soliekar was gored to death by the bison, the locals threatened to take a morcha to Forest Department, if it failed to trap and move the bison away from residential and farm areas.
Following this threat, the Forest officials have been camping in Shivdem and are keeping a day and night vigil for the animal to trap the same.
A local told this reporter that more than two dozen forest officials were working in shifts, day and night, to trap the bison. Therefore, he said, the villagers have called off the morcha for the time being.
It is learnt that the locals are also helping the forest department in their search operation for the bison. RFO Dharajit Naik is reportedly camping in Shivdem supervising the operation.
The locals further infirmed that Deputy Conservator of Forests Kuldip Sharma also visited the village and heard their grievances.
The Forest Officials have brought an elephant to guard the area and with the intention to move the bison at strategic place and catch it. It is learnt that bison fears an elephant. Besides, CCTVs are also installed in village.
But surprisingly the bison that killed the farmer on Wednesday evening did not visit the site since then.
