MARGAO: After successfully targeting the outskirts of the commercial town over the last one month, burglars resurfaced in Margao on Tuesday, as the city recorded a spate of daylight burglaries in the Pedda-Khareband locality.
The miscreants targeted two apartments located on the third floor of a residential building in a busy locality when the occupants had gone out in the morning after locking the door. The incident left the Margao police headed by PI Sudesh Naik red faced as the city was hit by a day light burglary after the spate of robberies and dacoities in the villages of Salcete.
In the instant case, the burglars targeted the apartments occupied by Akshay Hegde and Sethu Laxmi, decamping with a laptop, phone, earrings and cash.
Hegde said he had left the apartment at around 8.30 am only to find it burgled after his return at 12.45 pm. What left Akshay agitated was the fact that it took the police led by PI Sudesh Naik nearly 45 minutes to reach the spot, leaving enough time for the accused to make good their escape.
In the second incident, the burglars targeted the apartment occupied by Sethu Laxmi and two others who are employed in a city-based hospital.
The Margao police tried to block information flowing to the media under the pretext that DIG Ranganathan has appointed the district SPs as the PROs to brief the media.
