PONDA: Both the former secretary and former director of VPK Urban Co-operative Society welcomed the decision of Registrar of Co-operative Societies (RCS) for imposing restriction on the Society, on Friday.

Handing over a copy of the RCS order imposing restriction to the reporters, former secretary Damodar Mardolkar informed that the restrictions are temporary for short period and urged the politicians to stay away from politicising the issue for their gains.”

Mardolkar and former director Umesh Gaude demanded that the government dissolve the Board of Directors for their mismanagement, take action on them and appoint an administrator.

While addressing the media, they brought to the notice that the tenure of VPK Board has already ended on May 19 and election for new Board is pending on account of COVID-19 pandemic.

“Though restrictions are imposed for six months it is to protect the interest of VPK Society and improve its affairs and pull out from the crisis. The restrictions can be removed anytime and the stakeholders need not worry,” they mentioned.

Mardolkar said, “Some politicians want to take mileage from VPK restrictions. Without verifying the facts or reading the recent RCS June 5 restriction order, these politicians are alleging for no reason, RCS imposed restrictions on financially sound VPK Society.”

Rejecting allegations by political leaders, Mardolkar said he and 15 others had filed a complaint against BoDs on March 29, 2017 for their mismanagement in the Society.

“Some of the complainants including me and Umesh are the founder member of VPK Society. Based on our complaint RCS appointed an official. After an inquiry, she submitted her report to the RCS on May 10, 2017. Further, on August 2, 2018, she submitted misfeasance report to the RCS. Thereafter, another official of RCS office conducted inspection and submitted report to the RCS,” Mardolkar mentioned.

He further pointed out that in 2017 complaint, the complainants had clearly mentioned that the VPK management is not on the right path. The conditions while allowing loans are violated and not even checked whether the loan borrower has the capacity to repay huge amount of loan.

“One lady was given Rs 60 lakh loan without verifying security provided against her loan. While obtaining loan, the documents of property submitted by her as security belonged to other owner. Besides, despite the VPK loan limit is Rs 25 lakh, loans were sanctioned to many people above Rs 25 lakh. The VPK Society also involved in buying and selling of land at Mangueshim when no society has such permissions. The benefit of one time loan settlement schemes were given to few selected loanees,” Mardolkar said.
