CUNCOLIM: Despite the many representations that have been made by the locals in the last eight years or so by the residents of Cuncolim, they have been forced to deal with the unbearable foul fish odour emanating from the fish meal plants situated in the Cuncolim industrial estate.
This stench is particularly felt from October onwards where the dozen-odd plants resume full operations.

As it is the locals have also complained about pollution from other industries at the estate.
Locals said that the smell starts at night and that even surrounding villages like Ambaulim suffer from this. Blame has been put on elected representatives, be it the councillors, panchas and MLAs for failing to act on this issue. The locals also blame the local urban governing bodies, the State government and Goa State Pollution Control Board for turning a blind eye to this mess. They recalled that present MLA Clafasio Dias and the Chief Minister had given assurances last year but nothing has materialised until now. The only outlet left for locals is social media where they have been venting out against the authorities for their apathy.
Sandeep Naik, a local from Comba Paricotto that they can’t open their windows at doors due to the stench, which makes their lives miserable. Other locals pointed out that there could be a health hazard because of the stench at a time when coronavirus is lurking all around.
