Margao: The foundation stone for the wholesale fish market of the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) was laid on Monday.

Estimated at Rs. 54 Lakhs it is being projected as a major revenue earner for the municipality of Fatorda. The works include beautification of the wholesale fish market area, clearing the area and creating parking for visitors and pickups. There will be a footpath for pedestrians too. The work will also include road beautification of La-Grace Hotel on the Seraulim road junction.

TCP Minister and the SGPDA have thanked the builder/developer Elton D’costa for promising to develop the area. Speaking on the potential of this project the TCP Minister said “This can be after construction a major revenue earner for the new Fatorda Municipality that would come to be in the near future. The KTC bus stand once constructed can also be a revenue earner as the CM has put a noting that outstation buses coming to the bus stand will owe revenue to the municipality. The KTC may construct but can be revenue for the municipality.”

Taking a dig at Datta Naik who had earlier criticised him for his Fatorda Municipality plan Vijai said “There are many wise people like Datta Naik who asked “How will Vijai earn revenue for FMC?”. I want to tell them that this (wholesale market & KTC) is going to be the revenue and we will start earning the revenue here and pursue the concept.” Vijai also said that from here on there would be no brainless developments of gardens and other locales. The Gardens and other projects will be approved by conservation committees and will be approved only after ensuring that proper aesthetics are in place.
