Four CRZ structures razed in Khola

The demolition squad on Tuesday razed four alleged CRZ structures, including a residential house in Khola-Canacona.
According to Khola Sarpanch Archana Velip, 19 structures were marked as illegally existing in contravention of CRZ-1991 regulations in the coastal areas of the village.
Of these, four were demolished by the demolition team, two were removed by residents themselves, 11 have obtained stay orders, while two illegal structures at Nuem could not be demolished, as the JCB could not reach the site.
Panchayat Secretary Damodar Kankonkar informed that the two structures at Nuem will be demolished at a later date.
The four structures razed by the authorities include a residential house belonging to one Suckdo O Bhagkar at Matvem-Moll coast, a cowshed of Kuiro G Velip at Matvem-Moll, store-room-cum-firewood stockroom of Anthony C Mendes and a storeroom of Rayu Shiva Pagi, both at Cabo-de-Rama.
While Khola Sarpanch Archana Velip and Panchayat Secretary Damodar Kankonkar assisted the demolition squad to identify the alleged illegal structures, Canacona Joint Mamlatdar Satish Prabhu, BDO Manuel Barretto, village panchayat Extension Officer C S Naik, Extension Officer RE Deshmukh, PWD labourers assisted by a JCB machine carried out demolition. The demolition, which started in the morning, continued till late in the evening.
Junior Engineers from electricity and PWD (water supply) were also part of the demolition squad.
The JCB machine could not reach at most of the places and most of the demolitions were carried out manually by PWD workers.
Police led by Canacona PI Raju Raut Dessai, a batch of Cuncolim police led by PSI Prassanna Bhagat and some policemen from GAP provided security cover to the demolition squad.
Canacona Deputy Collector Deepak Dessai visited the demolition party for a short time before returning back to the headquarters, informed a source.
The entire demolition exercise passed-off peacefully without any incident.
