PANJIM: The Goa Lokayukta has recently observed that the high profile case against police officers, transport department officers, private bank officers and recovery agents in fraudulently transferring vehicles should be handed over to the CBI.
Goa Lokayukta P K Mishra passed an order on September 19, 2016 following a complaint filed by social activist Jowett D’Souza against the public functionaries stating that it is a fit case where investigation into the case registered at Maina Curtorim Police Station should be handed over to the CBI.
Lokayukta has asked Goa government to ascertain views over the case and transfer it to CBI for further investigation.
It may be recalled that the FIR was registered at Maina Curtorim Police Station on August 10, 2005 and on the next day, the investigation into the case was transferred to Canacona Police Station as in-charge of Maina Curtorim Police Station was an accused in the complaint.
However, the case went through three different police inspectors at Canacona without any headway.
Later, the case was transferred to Crime Branch which investigated and filed indictment.
Calling the indictment as farce as it did not indict anyone, activist D’Souza filed an appeal before the High Court of Bombay at Goa.
D’Souza said the Crime Branch has not investigated the case further or filed a supplementary indictment.
Simultaneously, the matter was also referred to Goa Lokayukta by government, which passed an order asking government to transfer the case to CBI.
Complainant has made serious allegations against government officers for illegally transferring vehicles on other names and smuggling them into the neighbouring States under the pretext of vehicle loan recovery.
