Freedom fighters children hold protest demanding jobs

PANJIM: The Children of Freedom Fighters Association organised a unique “Huyelo Ani Bobtayo Andolan” at Azad Maidan, here, in the name of the “Huyelo Ani Bobo Government”.

Chanting slogans in a traditional way of cursing someone, the Association explained the meaning of the title given to their protest, saying that they were shouting and screaming against the government that only makes “loud but empty promises”.

Association President Dr Shivaji Shet said the day-long protest was just a teaser of the massive protest they had planned for December 1, at the same venue. At this next protest, there will also be tributes paid to the freedom fighters that fought for Goa’s freedom. The protestors condemned how BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade played with the sentiments of these elderly freedom fighters when they had ended their earlier hunger strike based on his assurances.

Shet further pointed out that Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant had recently promised them that hundred jobs, in two phases would be given to the children of freedom fighters by November 10. He said the CM had said first they would be given 60 jobs and then 40 and that letters for the same were ready.

While sarcastically asking the CBI to investigate and locate these missing letters, Shet also said the children want permanent government jobs only and not small jobs given by Goa Human Resource Development Corporation (GHRDC).
