PORVORIM: Frequent power outages continue to torment residents of Porvorim and yet another disruption in power supply left residents of Housing Board Colony without electricity from 4.30 am till 11 am on Thursday.
The residents residing in the multi-storied building complained that they could not pump water in their overhead water tanks. “We had to fill water in the buckets and carry it to respective flats,” complained a resident.
When contacted, officials at Porvorim power sub station informed that the Jumper on the overhead 11 KV line had opened. “Due to this, one phase stopped working and caused a low voltage problem. Acting on complaints from residents, the linesman rectified the problem,” said an official.
The officials further said the Nachinola power sub station has decided to take a shutdown on Friday and on July 31 to replace the overhead conductors on high tension line from Tivim to Nachinola. “However, there will be power supply to Porvorim on Friday,” said the official.
“The Porvorim power sub station has decided to get power from Kadamba sub station at Ribandar and supply it to Porvorim and Nachinola. As about 10-12 joints on a circuit of the underground cable have been replaced, the circuit is working satisfactorily and hence there will not be any power supply problem for the residents of Porvorim,” added the official.
Meanwhile, the electricity department has notified residents and business establishments of Aldona, Bastora, Moira and Pomburpa that power will be shut down to these four villages at different times on July 26 from 9 am to 5 pm.
While residents of Bastora will have a power shutdown from 9 am to 11 am, Aldona village will be without power from 11 am to 1 pm. Power will be shut down in Moira from 1 pm to 3 pm, while residents of Pomburpa (including Ecoxim) will be without power from 3 pm to 5 pm.
The shutdown notice comes barely three days after Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo assured residents that the electricity department has begun steps to improve power supply to Aldona constituency.
Ticlo had claimed that power problems were faced at Aldona due to leakages in the joints of underground cables. Since the underground cable became ineffective, power was supplied through overhead cables, which were, however, prone to constant snapping as trees were getting uprooted in the area during the monsoons.
As part of efforts to resolve the power problems, Ticlo said the steps being taken by the electricity department include renovation of the LT line between Carona and Corjuem, replacement of the old 35 overhead transformers and laying of a 1.6 km underground cable from Al
