CANACONA: Canacona Police on Thursday arrested a woman from Joida-Karnataka on charges of abandoning a baby near the Gulem Rivulet in June.
According to Canacona PI Harischandra Madkaikar, the police were on trail of the accused woman, who was reported missing ever since the baby boy was found abandoned near the rivulet, some metres from the NH17 at Gulem on June 21.
The woman, who was part of a labour group working in Canacona, was finally traced and police claims that the woman had abandoned the baby shortly after birth and had fled away. Locals later noticed the baby and he was shifted to the GMC, but died five days later.
PI Madkaikar said the woman will be booked under the relevant sections of the penal code.
