MARGAO: The Margao Traffic Cell have booked a total of 668 cases of over-speeding from January to July this year, and has collected fines amounting to Rs 3,62,950.
Besides, booking other violations of the Motor Vehicle Act, the Margao Traffic Cell said they also booked 12,401 cases of riding without a helmet against two-wheeler riders and collected a fine of Rs 26,59,000.
Police said that 1,099 cases against motorists who were found not wearing their seat belts were also registered, yielding a fine of Rs 1,88,100.
The Margao and Colva Traffic Cells also recorded other violations like cars having tinted windows, driving without a valid licence, speaking on a mobile phone while riding or driving, ferrying passengers in a goods carrier, and jumping traffic signals, among others. Challans were also issued to people for allowing minors to ride or drive vehicles.
Intensifying their drive against drunken driving after the horrifying accident involving a car that drove off the Zuari Bridge, the Margao and Colva Traffic Cells have booked 46 persons for driving in a rash and negligent manner under the influence of alcohol, until August 8.
