Full ownership of Alvara land eludes Poriem constituents

Forced to undergo hardship on account of acute water shortage, erratic power supply, bad internal roads, etc

VALPOI: The main issue with regards to the full ownership of Alvara land appears to elude the constituents of Poriem, who for the past five decades have been forced to undergo hardship on account of acute water shortage, erratic power supply, bad internal roads, to name a few.

To add to their woes, the Morlem-Bagwada Bridge is still incomplete, while the Honda and Pissurlem Industrial Development Corporations have failed to provide the jobs to the constituents, especially the youth, which has resulted in the soaring unemployment rate.

With regards to the full ownership of Alvara land, they claim that they have already submitted over a thousand files pertaining to the land ownership in Poriem Constituency to the North Goa Collector.

However, till date not a single Alvara land holder has been given the full ownership rights.

Poriem Village Panchayat comprises of 12 wards, the locals are facing acute water shortage problem for several years. In all these wards the water is supplied through tankers. Several times due to the erratic water tanker service, villagers are kept waiting.

The locals have demanded that the irrigation project, mini dam project and the water treatment plant be constructed in each panchayat in the constituency to solve the water shortage issue.

They also complain that most of the internal roads in the constituency are in bad shape. They demanded that the Valpoi to Honda route be widened and requested for a proper road connecting Querim to Dongurlim Thane Village Panchayat.

“The major issue is the full ownership of Alvara land. We have already submitted thousand plus Alvara land ownership files to the North Goa Collector from Poriem. Till date not a single Alvara land holder has been given the full ownership of land rights,” said Deepak Gawas, a local from Poriem.
