PONDA: The Ponda Police as well as traffic Police are nowadays busy in issuing challans concentrating in the town, especially to bike riders for driving without a helmet.
However, on the other hand, the vehicles and bike riders struggling to manoeuvre their way from the craters filled with rain muddy water and pothole-dotted road, are furious over the road condition are confronting with Ponda Police for the worst conditions on the road.
“We are ready to pay fines for riding on without helmets but where are the roads in Ponda? We are struggling to find clear path to ride out bikes on the road,” say bikers.
The clear path, they claim, is lost in craters and potholes everywhere. Police are issuing the riders challans for driving through these pothole ridden roads. The size of potholes and craters are also increasing every day causing more and more hardships to them.
Strangely the traffic police who often dictate their terms prefer to keep silent on their question as all of them are aware of the road condition in Ponda.
While having no answers to the bikers’ question about the road conditions, the Ponda Police continue issuing challans. Unofficially admitting that all the roads in the town are in a worst state, the police say: “We too don’t like the road conditions and feel bad for issuing challans when there exists no good roads for them to ride. But we are bound to perform our duties as directed by senior officials.”
Some Councillors too expressed their displeasure over police for harassing the riders in the town despite the resolution by the Ponda Municipal Council not to make wearing helmet compulsory in the town.
