G20 banners put ostensibly to cover a slum area pose danger to motorists

VASCO: Huge G20 banners which have been erected along the Verna–Varunapuri highway, ostensibly to cover a slum area at Zuarinagar are posing danger to motorists.

Many of these banners and flex boards have not been fixed properly by the vendor, resulting in these banners coming onto the highway and thus blocking the view of the vehicle users on roads, which might cause mishaps.

There is a possibility of a major accident in the offing, a social worker said and threatened to block the road if these banners are not fixed properly. He said that most of these banners which were erected hurriedly have been torn apart and the flex is waving and are lying dangerously along the highway.

One of the residents complained that a one of these G20 hoardings suddenly crashed and fell on his car. Though it did not cause any injury to the occupants and the vehicle, the family said that it could have caused accidents if the driver had lost control over the steering.

Congress leader Adv Hridaynath Shirodkar said that these huge banners have been put up only to hide the slum area situated at Zuarinagar from the view of international delegates from G-20 countries.

“It is similar to what the Government of India did in Gujarat when it had hid a slum from the view of the then USA President Donald Trump,” said Adv Shirodkar.

Adv Shirodkar said that the government is ashamed of slums, casino advertisement boards but not of casinos. “I don’t understand why the government is doing this and putting the lives of people at risk,” he said.
