PERNEM: Residents of Gadekarbhatlem located in the jurisdiction of Pernem Municipal Council on Friday gheraoed the Pernem PWD office over irregular water supply.
They said for the last eight days there is no water supply and further threatened to protest if the PWD fails to restore their water supply by Monday.
Further, residents informed Herald that they have been visiting the PWD office fortnightly to highlight the issue but the PWD official has turned deaf ear towards their problem.
“For the last eight days, we have not received even a drop of water. Today, we visited the PWD office to confront the officer but officer-in-charge wasn’t available. We have made several written complaints to the concerned officer but he is turning deaf ear towards our problem,” a housewife said.
“We get water once in eight days but the pressure is low,” they pointed out.
“Four days ago, we met JE Morajkar, who assured us that the PWD will release water on alternate days but till now there is no water. If this is the situation in the month of December then one can imagine what will happen during the summer,” a local Satyawan Gadekar said.
Residents further pointed out that the department sends water tankers to the ward but there is no provision with the people to store water.
We only get assurance but no water. We also receive monthly water bills but no water. Why we should pay the bills if we don’t receive water, they lamented.
