Ganganagar slum area in Mapusa cordoned off as mini-containment zone

Mapusa: The Ganganagar area of Mapusa, which is the slum area of Mapusa, has been declared as a mini-containment zone, after a COVID-19 positive case was detected there.

Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Ryan Braganza stated that the infected person is working as a barber at Goa Medical College and Hospital. “As soon as the reports were tested positive, he was shifted to the COVID Centre in Shiroda,” he said. 

On Wednesday, MMC carried out sanitisation of the Ganganagar area. The swab samples of the family and immediate neighbours of the infected person were collected by team of doctors from the Urban Health Centre.

“I appeal to the people not to panic. We have already sanitised the area and taken the necessary steps. The area has been declared as mini-containment zone till all the reports tests negative. We will also fast track the process of distributing immune boosting medicine in this area, Braganza added.

Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza also visited the area and inspected the arrangements in place. The area has been barricaded with restrictions for entry and exit and police staff has been deployed to monitor the same. 

There are around 150 houses in this area and a total of 230 people have been identified. 150 swabs have been completed and reports of the same are awaited.
