MARGAO: People from all walks of life bid adieu to former Curtorim MLA and Scheduled Tribe leader Antonio Gauncar as his mortal remains were laid to rest at the Raia cemetery on Sunday evening after an Eucharistic celebration at the Livramento Chapel, Arlem-Raia.
A galaxy of political and social leaders paid tributes to the ST leader and offered condolences to the bereaved family. Amongst those who attended the funeral were Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco, former MLA Francisco Sardinha, GPCC Chief Luizinho Faleiro, UGDP leader Radharao Gracias and others. Leader of the Opposition, Pratapsing Rnae, MLAs Michael Lobo, Digambar Kamat, Vijai Sardesai, Subhash Faldesai, former minister, Arecio D’Souza, former MLA Damu Naik and others are also believed to have visited the residence and offered sympathies to the family.
Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco said that Gauncar led the scheduled Tribe movement from the front having being associated with the Mull Goenkarancho Ekvott and then with the All Goa Scheduled Tribes Action Committee as its Chief Convenor.
