VASCO: The chairman of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of the school in Vasco, where the physical education teacher who is also the drawing teacher, allegedly molested an 8-year-old schoolgirl, claimed that the PTA was not aware of any molestation incident
in the school.
“The PTA is neither aware of any molestation in the school, nor did the school management bring the issue to our notice,” the chairman told Herald.
“I was only informed over the phone that a parent has filed a complaint against a teacher and that the management is trying to take legal course; after that nothing was brought to my notice,” said the chairman.
“It is very shocking that a teacher has behaved in such a manner with a minor child and that the management has kept us in the dark. I am very much disturbed, as today it is this girl, tomorrow it could be my child,” stated the chairman.
“I came to know about the incident just a few days back when my sister asked me about it.”
When asked whether CCTV cameras are installed in the school premises, the chairman said, “Surprisingly, till date not a single meeting took place nor has the management installed CCTV cameras in the school premises.”
“After reading the news in the newspapers on Sunday, I went to find out when and how the incident took place, but to my surprise, being the PTA chairman, the members of the management did not share anything and refused to comment,” said the chairman.
Speaking to Herald, some parents alleged that the school management, instead of installing CCTV cameras, is planning to lay floor tiles in the classroom.
Another parent said the hall which was constructed for the students is being let out to play badminton till 8 am and during this time the students start walking in the school premises. “On other days, the hall is hired for weddings and other parties, thereby depriving the students of using the hall,” said the parent.
“The PTA members should take up the issue and see to it that the management keeps the PTA informed of every incident that takes place in the school premises and also about installing CCTV cameras for the safety and security of the students,” added the parent. Meanwhile, Vasco police said they are yet to get remand of the accused as he is admitted in GMC after he complained of high pressure and chest pain.
