PANJIM: Raising issues faced by the logistics stakeholders in the State, the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) logistics committee has urged the Captain of Ports to update on the status of the progress and development of the six national rivers and to improve ferryboat services for both – locals and tourists.
A delegation led by GCCI logistics committee chairman Chandrakant Gawas, met Captain of Ports (CoP) Vikas Gaunekar, and submitted a representation to him regarding the issues faced by the logistics stakeholders in the State.
Some of the key points discussed during the meeting with the Captain of Ports Vikas Gaunekar were improvement in the ferryboat services in the State for tourism purposes and also for the use of locals and to identify the major rivers used for transportation in the State so that timely dredging can be done at these rivers.
The delegation also urged the Captain of Ports to update on the status of the progress and development of the six national rivers and the status of the upgrade plan of the Maritime School at Britona.
The GCCI logistics committee chairman also requested the Captain that while forming the Maritime Board, a member from GCCI be considered on the Board so that the Chamber can share its inputs and suggestions.
Gawas also thanked the Captain of Ports for reducing the rates of riverine charges which were increased in February. The Captain of Ports appreciated the chairman for sharing the grievances of the stakeholders with him and assured his support in solving the issues raised during the meeting.
The CoP also requested the chairman to submit a list of rivers that need dredging so that the same can be included in the budget. The chairman thanked the Captain for the meeting and assured him Chamber’s full support.
Others present at the meeting were GCCI logistics committee Mayur Negandhi and Naresh Mandrekar, Director of GCCI Kiran Ballikar and Foreign Trade Officer Sanket Kaskar.
