The Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has warned that the deteriorating condition of roads, unsafe junctions, and lack of proper traffic management are severely affecting South Goa’s quality of life and trade efficiency. In a detailed representation to South Goa Collector Egna Cleema, IAS, a GCCI delegation led by Logistics Committee Chairman Chandrakant Gawas highlighted critical infrastructure and safety concerns requiring urgent attention.
Foremost among these issues was the partial repair work on the Goa–Belgaum Road via Anmod, an important trade corridor that remains damaged over a three-metre stretch at Ramnagar. The Chamber welcomed the reopening of the route but urged expedited completion of pending works.

The GCCI also pointed to the Verna junction as a major accident blackspot, pressing for dedicated traffic police deployment, strict speed monitoring, and improved road signage to prevent mishaps. Additionally, the trade body voiced concern over the poor state of the Old Borim Bridge and requested updates on new construction progress while ensuring maintenance of the existing structure.
Beyond road issues, the Chamber advocated establishing truck termini in both districts to reduce highway congestion, controlling indiscriminate garbage dumping near major routes, and strengthening marine safety by mandating post-monsoon vessel checks.
Collector Cleema assured the delegation that all issues would be examined and addressed in coordination with relevant departments.
