MAPUSA: The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority on Thursday inspected an alleged illegal construction at Tivai Vaddo, Calangute following complaints from the Calangute Constituency Forum.
Forum president Premanand Diukar alleged that whoever has undertaken the construction in the No Development Zone (NDZ) has bluntly destroyed the beach environment. They have used concrete and have erected 30 to 40 columns.
“We have day wise recording of the progress of the construction. We complained to the GCZMA and other concerned authorities and based on our complaint the authority came for a site inspection. However, the officials were denied entry inside which means that illegalities are underway. The concerned party should show what permissions they have obtained or produce the proof of the works undertaken,” Diukar demanded.
“Our demand is that the work undertaken using concrete should be demolished and the land should be restored to its original State,” he said. Diukar said the CRZ rules clearly State that no concrete should be used in any manner and if any concrete is used then the permissions should be revoked. Permissions are given only for temporary wooden huts and not for concrete construction.
He said the construction received two permissions from the Calangute Panchayat, one for five wooden cottages and the other for 18 wooden huts and shacks.
