PANJIM: In a major move, Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has issued demolition orders to 15 structures belonging to BJP Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo in Calangute, as the structures were found to have been erected in a no-development zone in violation of the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) guidelines.
In an order issued on Thursday (a copy of which is with Herald), GCZMA Member Secretary Narayan Gad directed the Deputy Collector and Sub Divisional Officer (Bardez) to demolish the temporary seasonal structures, which include one shack and 14 wooden huts.
“The GCZMA in August, following National Green Tribunal (NGT) order, had issued demolition orders in 23 cases, which included 15 structures belonging to Ticlo. However, the order was kept on hold by the interim committee headed by the secretary (environment), constituted to deal with CRZ matters in view of non-reconstitution of GCZMA in September,” highly placed sources said.
Sources said that following the re-inspection of the structures, it was found to be erected illegally in no development zone. “Accordingly, the demolition order has been issued,” sources said.
The order was issued following the NGT order asking GCZMA to demolish all illegal shacks and allied structures found in violation of CRZ rules
However, Ticlo had challenged the order and demanded re-inspection of the site. He had claimed that his structures were beyond the HTL and that he had inadvertently taken CRZ clearance in February. The MLA had enclosed a survey plan showing his structure falling beyond HTL.
