The Goa State Information Commission, here, has ordered the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority to appoint a Public Information Officer within a period of 15 days staring from June 1, 2010.
The order is a result of a complaint filed by V A Kamat of St Inez seeking information from the GCZMA under the Right to Information Act on projects falling within 200 mts of the High Tide Line.
The judgement given by State Information Commissioner (SIC) Afonso Araujo states GCZMA failed to appoint a PIO to deal with matters pertaining to RTI. He said it appeared the appointment of PIO was on contract basis and after the resignation of the legal assistant, the one who was subsequently appointed also resigned.
He maintained right from the date of an order earlier order passed by the Commission on July 16, 2009 directing GCZMA to appoint a PIO till date there has been no action thus showing total disregard to provisions of RTI Act.
The order of the SIC stated on appointment of a new PIO by the GCZMA the complainant V A Kamat’s application dated July 4, 2009 has to be disposed as per the provisions of Section 7(1) of the RTI Act.
