Bambolim, NGO GenNext has demanded that the fact-finding committee consist of legislators, eminent doctors, prominent citizens and senior media persons.
“A one-man committee cannot probe and bring change,” said GenNext president Durgadas Kamat, who alleged that the committee was constituted under Dr Avinash Kamat Dhakankar, who is a close relative of Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
GenNext, which had highlighted the pathetic conditions prevailing at the State-run Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, has decided to write to Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Francis D’Souza, demanding that the committee consist of legislators from each party, eminent doctors (non-Goa Medical College and Hospital), prominent citizens and senior media persons.
GenNext has urged D’Souza to make surprise visits to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim to understand the situation there.
He said, “The government needs to be serious towards the health sector, which is in a total mess.”
GenNext president Durgadas Kamat also alleged that during Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar’s tenure as Health Minister, the health sector had seen no improvement, but had actually deteriorated.
