VASCO: State immunisation officer Dr Rajendra Borkar on Saturday urged the locals to get vaccinated for COVID-19.
He was speaking during the COVID-19 vaccine immunization to the healthcare workers at Chicalim Sub district hospital.
Dr Borkar said, “Goa received 23,500 COVID vaccines of which 500 vaccines were administered to the Central Government employees and defence personnel.” He mentioned that the two vaccine doses will be also administered to the healthcare workers. The second vaccine dose will be given on February 13.
Dr Borkar said, “This is the world’s largest public vaccination drive which is undertaken all over the country.” Dr Borkar expressed his confidence that people would benefit from the vaccine and he took first vaccine jab at the Chicalim Sub District Hospital.
Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida appreciated the efforts of the scientists and researchers for coming out with the COVID-19 vaccine and expressed gratitude to the healthcare workers for their hard work during the pandemic. Almeida said, “It is a great achievement that the COVID-19 vaccine has arrived and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started the drive all over India.”
Meanwhile, several healthcare workers got their first vaccine jab on Saturday. The second dose will be administered to them on February 13.
