GFP faults govt’s handling of Coronovirus crisis

MARGAO: The Goa Forward Party (GFP) has said that the government is in total disarray, confusion and indecisive in handling the Coronovirus crisis. However, the party has welcomed the 21-day nation-wide lockdown.

“We are alarmed at the way this government is handling the response to COVID-19 in Goa. The government is in total disarray with indecisiveness, confusion, discordant voices, flip-flops the order of the day,” GFP President Vijai Sardesai said.

He reiterated that the COVID-19 Response Team (CRT) has to be headed by the chief secretary and not the chief minister.

“Union Home Ministry on Tuesday released detailed guidelines after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced 21-day nationwide lockdown! All shops selling essentials — such as grocery, milk, vegetables, fruit, meat, fish, as well as chemists, ATMs, banks, to remain open. Doesn’t it apply here in Goa?” questioned Sardesai and sought a clarification on this from Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.

“Government’s decision now to allow home delivery of groceries and essential commodities from local supermarkets and grocery stores in Fatorda will be monitored by our Goa Forward Party. MMC Councillors, local leaders and Women SHGs will be roped in for the delivery of essentials to Fatorda and the details of which will be put out soon,” he said.
