PANJIM: Taking a dig at the opposition Congress for the “imminent dissolution” statement, Goa Forward Party president and TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai on Wednesday said Congress wants dissolution as it wants to ‘pre-pone’ the ticket trading season.
Sardesai, speaking to the media, said he has asked Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to direct his party to clarify on the Congress charge. “I don’t know why the Congress leaders made the statement but I know that the party wants dissolution. What they could not achieve in the House they want to do it outside by selling tickets,” he said.
Sardesai said that Congress is in the hands of people who are not elected but would like to trade on tickets because “the ticket selling season which comes in five  years, they want to be pre-poned”.
On a serious note, he said, he has raised the issue in the Cabinet and CM has rubbished the claims. “I feel as the ruling party that heads the coalition, the BJP has to clarify and I asked the CM that the senior functionary of the BJP should clarify as Opposition has made a major charge which points to instability in this government,” he said.
Asked what the CM’s reaction to the comments was, the TCP minister said, “CM has said no. I am also convinced that there cannot be elections because of the clear game of numbers. At the moment I don’t think the BJP is in a position to dissolve the House and go for elections. This is reality.”
Asked the reason why the CM is taking a vote on account for five months, he replied, “There is no ostensible reason for dissolution. Dissolution is on point of political instability and not on point of financial position. It is his decision to take vote on account as finance minister.”
No dissolution, Asserts BJP
Following discussions at the State Cabinet, and as directed by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar, on behalf of BJP, clarified that neither would the Goa Assembly be dissolved nor would Goa go for mid-term polls. In a message Sawaikar said the government would complete its 5-year term. He said the  Congress is creating confusion as it would lose the Assembly by-polls as well as LS polls.
