‘GFP using Dr Jack statue issue for its stability’

PANJIM: As the issue of installation of statue of Dr Jack de Sequeira has sparked a political war, Congress has accused former deputy chief minister Vijai Sardesai for using the issue for its own political stability.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar questioned why Sardesai, who now speaks about recognising contribution of the Father of Opinion Poll, was silent or continued to be part of the BJP-led government when the resolution to install the statue in Assembly premise, was thrown out.
“Vijai was part of the government, when the resolution was thrown out by the House. Why did he remain silent?” Chodankar said.
“Everyone knows, Vijai uses Dr Jack de Sequeira for his political stability,” he commented.
The charge comes hours after Sardesai told media that Goa Forward Party (GFP) will not compromise on Dr Jack de Sequeira statue.
Responding to a question with regards to BJP and Congress backed councillors of Margao Municipal Council joining hands to oppose the statue, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat refuted the charge stating that the objection is not for installation of statue but failure to follow the procedure.
“The councillors have come together on one common issue and it has nothing to do with the party. The issue is about the wrong procedure followed and not with regards to statue. They have objected to the minutes of the meeting,” Kamat said.
He said that there is nothing sort of political ideology in the protest.
