PANJIM: The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of Herald news report about failure of the authorities concerned to release pension to as many as 30 retired primary and high school teachers.
In view of this, the Commission has issued notices to the Secretary (Education), Director (Education) and Director (Accounts) returnable by July 25.
Herald, in its edition on June 22, had reported about how 30-odd retired teachers, who had superannuated over two years back, are awaiting release of their pension which has been held back by the Directorate of Accounts.
Sources said despite several reminders by Education Department the Accounts Department is giving excuses for the non-release of the payment.
In another instance, four Goa University Grade ‘IV’ employees, retired last year, are also waiting for their pension while 19 additional employees are in the pipeline to superannuate. GU sources alleged that laxity on the part of its administrative officer has held back their pension.
