PANJIM: The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has ordered an investigation into a complaint of sexual assault on a school student at Curchorem. Commission member A D Salkar has also pulled up the high school for failing to act against the teacher, who is accused of raping the Class IX student and molesting another during a school camp this month.
“The allegations made in the (anonymous) complaint are serious in nature. It is alleged that the boy of the (name of the school) was brutally raped by Sir (name of the teacher) at Scouts Guide District Camp which was held at Rivona on February 9 and 10, 2019. It is also alleged that another boy (his name) was also molested by the same teacher in those days,” the commission observed stating, “As the allegations made in the complaint are very serious in nature, the Commission cannot be a silent spectator to such alleged incident. Therefore, the Commission taking cognisance of the matter, directs the Police Inspector, Investigation Cell of this Commission to investigate the matter thoroughly and to submit his detailed report within 15 days.”
The anonymous complainant had explained the ordeal in a two-page complaint letter, copy of which was also marked to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, Minister Nilesh Cabral, Director (Education) Nagraj Honnekari and Curchorem police. The complainant also alleged that the victim boys had reported the matter to the school teachers and Chairman but no action has been taken as yet. Moreover, neither anyone from the management has met the traumatised victim of sexual assault.
“(Name of sexual assault victim) is in mental trauma and not in a state to attend the school. The school authorities know about this incident and till now no action has been taken against the shameful action of sir (teacher’s name). This shows the headmistress is very irresponsible,” the complaint stated further mentioning that another student was last year a victim of the same teacher and sought action.
