PANJIM: The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has decided to inspect the road works at Ribandar on June 27, a move that comes following a complaint by lawyer-activist Aires Rodrigues alleging the haphazard work has put many residents to inconvenience.
Acting GHRC Chairman A D Salkar has directed the Commission’s Secretary along with its police investigative team to inspect the roads in Ribandar and submit its report within 7 days.
Rodrigues had complained that human rights of the residents of Ribandar were grossly violated by the rank inaction of the authorities as the roads which were dug up last month by the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) have led to several problems.
“If there was proper coordination between the IPSCDL, PWD and BSNL, the inconvenience caused to residents of Ribandar, who were left without water supply and telephone service for almost a month, could have been avoided. The restoration work of the dug up roads has not been done properly and it will be washed away in the current monsoon,” he said.
Last month, the Commission had sought a report on the condition of roads in Ribandar from the Chief Secretary, North Goa Collector and IPSCDL Managing Director.
The complainant had also moved the North Goa Collector R Menaka alleging that the IPSCDL had recklessly dug up the roads, which endangered the lives and property of Ribandar residents.
