PANJIM: The Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) is likely to take over nearly 35 industrial plots that were left unutilized or underutilized for last four years. These plots would be newly allotted to the industrial players, following consent from Board of Directors (BoD).
Around 100 industrial plot owners were issued show-cause notices by the GIDC in March 2013, following which 30 plots were taken over while granting additional time of six months to the remaining in December, last year.
The notices were issued asking them ‘why action should not be taken to terminate their tenancy and evacuate them from the plot’. Almost 65 per cent of the plot owners in the various industrial estates have left their plots unutilized or underutilized while the balance 35 per cent has carried out partial construction.
A senior official confirmed that government has in principle agreed to take over another 35 plots that remained unutilized or underutilized for nearly four years, despite granting extension. However, the decision would be placed before the BoD, who would be meeting shortly, for approval.
“The industrial players, to whom the plots were allocated, in their reply have sought additional time of one to two months to set up unit. The reply was unsatisfactory, as hardly few per cent of work is been undertaken so far on the plots,” the official said.
The official said that around 30 plots have already been taken over in the first phase while few of which are also been allocated to new players.
The official said that since government is keen on promoting Goa as industrial destination, it has to solve the problem of land.
We have enough land in the industrial estates but has been occupied and kept without any use, he added.
State has 24 industrial estates and is in the process of notifying few more.
Goa government has already notified plot transfer regulations, as per which, it is mandatory for the plot allottee to utilize 30 per cent of its plot along with carrying out certain portion of production activities, before putting up papers for transfer.
