MARGAO: Congress General Secretary Girish Chodankar Sunday dared Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to first ask his MLAs and those supporting his government to first declare all the firearms including the illegal ones in their possession and further asked him to direct the MLAs to stop promoting goondagiri and drugs.
Reacting to the Chief Minister’s statement that fear of gun culture coming to Goa was palpable following the Rawanfond incident, Girish in a press statement alleged that some ruling MLAs including ministers possess illegal weapons and asked the chief minister to take action against them first before targeting the public.
“Please ask those in the government to stop goondagiri,” he said while daring the chief minister not to merely make statements for applause but to “walk the talk”.
Pointing out that MLAs supporting the government including some cabinet members have accused the involvement of legislators in the drug trade in Goa, he urged the chief minister to tackle the problem in his own house first and asked that the investigations in drug cases be handed over to the CBI.
“Disclose if your ministers or MLAs have given any information regarding the drugs trade,” he said pointing out that the chief minister had appealed in public for such information. “You owe this information to Goans,” he said.
Welcoming the police station at Fatorda, he said his only hope was that it becomes people friendly and not politician friendly for keeping people under “constant terror and fear”.
