PANJIM: The cardiothoracic unit of the Goa Medical College (GMC) has in the past three years catered to hundreds of patients, 609 of whom have undergone surgeries at the hospital. The government has, for these surgeries, spent Rs 2.20cr.
Much like during the registration of patients at the hospital, those that are being operated on and getting treatment consist not only of locals but patients from neighbouring States too.
Further statistics have revealed that the cardiovascular and thoracic surgery department has conducted 375 open heart surgeries, 110 vascular surgeries, 46 thoracic surgeries and 83 intermediate and emergencies.
