GMC incinerator overloaded with waste: Dean

PANJIM: Responding to incident where the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) had fined Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim (GMC) regarding the burning of waste in the hospital premises, Dean Dr Shivanad Bandekar said its incinerator is overloaded with biomedical waste.

He pointed out that the hospital facility can handle only one-and-a-half tonnes of biomedical waste per day but it receives nearly two-and-a-half tonnes of waste per day from various hospitals.

Herald had recently reported about the issues with disposing of biomedical waste in the State and that the GMC’s sole incinerator is not sufficient to deal with the waste being generated daily.
