PANJIM: Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) on Wednesday suspended services of four staffers and terminated one contractual worker, after they were allegedly found to be involved in gross irregularities. GMC Dean Dr Pradeep Naik ordered disciplinary proceedings against four staffers.
Lower Division Clerks Gopal Gawas, Govind Chodankar, Laxmikant Gaude and cashier Vishnu Gaunce have been placed under suspension, while the services of contractual worker Ankush Gawas have been terminated with immediate effect.
When contacted, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said, “All were involved in gross illegalities including accepting bribes to book slot for the Out Patient Department (OPD).”
Rane said that some were involved in running private businesses, while being on duty and that they were also involved in disappearance of important documents from the hospital.
He said that all five were under the scanner for some time and after a close watch and investigation their involvement was exposed. “We had to take action to maintain discipline,” Rane stated.
Gawas, LDC attached to Plastic Surgery Department, has been posted to TB and Chest Disease Hospital at St Inez. Chodankar, LDC from Radiology department, has been transferred to Rural Health Centre, along with Gaude and Gaunce, who were in the accounts section.
All four have been directed not to leave the headquarters without obtaining the prior permission of Dean.
