Goa Mining People’s Front on Tuesday met Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and urged him to impress upon the Union government to amend the MMDR Act or the Concession Act so that mining leases in Goa are valid up to 2037.
“We met the chief minister and he told us that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has formed a group of ministers to look into the matter. The CM said he will go there after the Assembly is over probably on August 4 or 7 and take up the matter with them,” GMPF president Puti Gaonkar said.
He added that Parrikar assured them to take up a resolution in the Assembly for recommending the Centre to promulgate an ordinance which will pave the way for an early start of mining in Goa.
Gaonkar said that as the CM has assured to take up the matter with Centre the agitation called by the mining dependents from July 25 stands cancelled.
