GMPF says reviving mining can pull out economy from crisis

Goa Mining People’s Front (GMPF) leader Puti Gaonkar has claimed that the resumption of mining can pull the country out of the present financial crisis caused by the COVID-19 lockdown.  Pointing out that he had frequently urged the government to make efforts for the commencement of legal mining in Goam he opined that mining operations can be carried out following social distancing and safety measures.  He further pointed out that many of the mining dependents were already suffering due to the ban of mining and the current situation has only worsened their financial woes.  “With the tourism and other sectors facing a bleak future, full-scale mining operations should be resumed immediately,” he added Mining dependents are also eagerly waiting for the mining-related matter that is coming up for hearing in the Supreme Court soon. They are hoping for a favourable verdict and follow-up action by the Centre and State government on the ground.
