PANJIM: The Department of Environment and Climate Change has issued a notification banning deadly kite strings known as “manja”, or any other thread coated with glass/metallic components following an appeal from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India to address bird and human deaths caused by manja.
The notification under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act (EPA), 1986, prohibits the sale, production, storage, supply, import, and use of all kite strings coated with glass or other harmful substances in addition to confirming a prohibition on the notorious nylon “Chinese” manja.
