PANJIM: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has directed all the higher secondary schools to prioritize admissions to the students with Mathematics Level 1 for Science stream in Class XI, after Board came across cases where these students are placed under waiting lists.
In a communication to the High Secondary Schools, the Goa Board has directed to first allow admissions to the students with Maths Level 1 for Class XI science stream and only if seats are vacant then the students with Maths Level 2 should be admitted to science. “No student with Maths Level 1 should be in the wait list,” the Board said.
The Board pointed out that it has come across instances where some higher secondary schools are allowing admissions to Class X Science stream with Maths Level 2 while placing students with Maths Level 1 in the wait list.
The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) have introduced Mathematics Level 2 for Class X from the academic year 2020-21. All students are taught Maths usual upto Class X. Only while answering the exam, they will have the option to choose between two different difficulty levels- 1 or 2. Those who want to answer the exam of the higher difficulty level can opt for ‘higher mathematics’ (Level 1) and those who want to answer the exam of a lower difficulty level can opt for ‘mathematics’, (Level 2).
The move was introduced for those students who do not desire to continue Mathematics after Class X and those who do not want to pursue Science Stream after SSC, so they can opt for Mathematics Level 2.
